- Purulent drainage or exudates;
- gingival recession, pockets deeper than 4 mm;
- enlarged tonsils beyond what is developmentally appropriate;
- smooth atrophic, sensitive tongue;

- mucosal denudation;
- presence of pathogens;
- difficult speech;
