Dengue fever also known as breakbone fever, is an infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles. In a small proportion of cases the disease develops into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs.

Nursing Diagnosis

Deficient Fluid volume : less than body requirements related to increased capillary permeability, bleeding, vomiting and fever.

Goal:
  • Body fluid volume adequat
Expected outcomes:
  • Body fluid volume returned to normal

Nursing Intervention for Dengue Fever
  • Assess the general state and condition of the patient
  • Observation of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate)
  • Observation for signs of dehydration
  • Observation drip infusion and intravenous needle insertion site
  • Balance of fluid (the fluid input and out put)
  • Give the patient and family encourage patients to drink a lot
  • Instruct the patient's family to replace the patient's clothing is wet with sweat.

Goal :
  • Hypertermia can be resolved

Expected outcomes
  • Body temperature returned to normal

Nursing Intervention for Dengue Fever
  • Observation of vital signs, especially temperature
  • Give a cold compress (plain water) on the forehead and armpits
  • Change clothes soaked with sweat
  • Encourage the family to put on clothing that can absorb sweat like cotton.
  • Encourage the family to provide drinking lots of approximately 1500 to 2000 cc per day.
  • Collaboration with doctors in the provision Therapy, febrifuge.
